Spanning five decades, Commonwealth explores how this chance encounter reverberates through the lives of the four parents and six children involved. Spending summers together in Virginia, the Keating and Cousins children forge a lasting bond that is based on a shared disillusionment with their parents and the strange and genuine affection that grows up between them.

Amara is cute, but she's also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself. Their relationship doesn't improve much over the years. But when a baby brother enters the picture, and later, when something doesn't seem right between their parents, they realize they must figure out how to get along. They are sisters, after all.

Canine Book Nook

Reading to dogs can boost reading skills and self-confidence in children as well as help with emotional and social skills. Many children are self-conscious and hesitant when reading out loud, but when they read stories to a dog they are less stressed and actually find it enjoyable! Joan O'Neill, a volunteer with Therapy Dogs International along with Lucy, her canine reading partner, are available for 15 minute reading sessions in the Children's Room. Lucy is a good listener! So bring along your favorite book and share a story with a furry friend.

This month Lucy is coming on May 4th and May 18th, which are the first and third Thursdays of the month.
